In Africa, it is referred to as “women's gold”, because it is so valuable, and has been used for centuries as a cosmetic, in its pure form and as a raw material, in the production of many cosmetic and pharmaceutical products.

Its main characteristic is that it is an emollient, softening the skin, and can therefore be used on the entire body or, specifically, on the lips, hands , elbows or feet. Although it is suitable for all skin types, it can benefit dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin more. With a smooth texture, but without a greasy or excessively shiny effect, it is quickly absorbed and protects the skin from external aggressions, such as cold, wind, sun, sea or pool water (chlorine). It constitutes a barrier against UVA and UVB rays, forming a natural sunscreen on the skin. When pure, shea butter has a protective effect comparable to SPF 3 and can be used to enhance the effect of other sunscreens. It also has a softening effect and, therefore, can be used after waxing and after shaving. It helps to smooth wrinkles, minimizes acne spots, helps to alleviate and reduce scars, blemishes and stretch marks, which appear due to the loss of skin elasticity.
